THE REVEREND KENNETH L. SCHMIDT

The Reverend Kenneth L. Schmidt has been Rector of All Saints' Episcopal Church since 1988.  He was first ordained Deacon and then Priest in the Diocese of New York by its then Bishop Paul L. Moore, one of the bishops who helped  make today's Episcopal Church one the nation's most inclusive and socially aware main stream denominations.  

Father Schmidt received his B.A. from Houghton College, Houghton, New York and went on to receive both a Master of Divinity and Ph. D from the Princeton Theological Seminary.  In addition, he has received a Doctor of Ministry from the San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo.   

He has taught theology at several distinguished schools including the Ecumenical Institute, St. Mary's Seminary, and the University of Baltimore as well as the Westminster Choir College and the Jesuit university, St. Joseph's University, in Philadelphia, PA.  During his parish career he also served as Assisting Priest at Trinity Church in Princeton, New Jersey, St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Philadelphia and St. Luke Episcopal Church in the Germantown district of Philadelphia.

The Rector is very active in the Diocese of California.  He has served as Chair to the Department of Education, Chair of the Social Ministries Division of Jubilate Deo, Diocesan Council, and is founding member and Board Member of the Diocese outreach ministry to gay and lesbians, Oasis.  He continues his teaching and currently serves on the faculty of the School of Deacons.

He lives with his domestic partner, John H. Roberts, Professor of Music and Head of the Music Library at the University of California at Berkeley.
