The Opening Prayer

We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you:

Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

The following May be added

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Glory Be

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Scripture

Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God as a thing to be grasped; but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, and was born in human likeness. And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death upon a cross. Therefore, God has highly exalted him, and bestowed on him the name, which is above every name. Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee and kneel before the Lord our Maker, for he is the Lord our God.

Meditation:

V. Surely he has borne our griefs
R. And carried our sorrows.

Pause for silent reflection:

O God, you know us to be set in the midst of so many and great dangers, that be reason of the frailty of our nature we cannot always stand upright: Grant us such strength and protection as may support us in all dangers, and carry us through all temptations through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Holy God,
Holy and Mighty,
Holy Immortal One,
Have mercy upon us.

Or these lines from the Stabat Mater

Oh, how sad and sore distressed
Now was she that Mother blessed
Of the sole-begotten One
